Father dancing with son is the title of this painting. I don't know when it appeared at home, but I do know that it was hung in my bedroom. And that over time I took it to my own place when I flew the coop and my father ended up giving it to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was just as crackers about the painting as I was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A father dancing with a baby. Heaven on earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Cheek to cheek)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

An image perhaps antagonistic to the image of that patriarchal, inflexible, macho god who with his beard, pressed lips and insidious eyes punished you from the pulpit. Also antagonistic is the image of this father in baggy trousers and somewhat tousled, cheek to cheek, joined in the skin of their necks... Antagonistic, as I was saying, to the image of that slicked-back and egocentric *pater* who in the name of god and with the help of his particular Eichmanns, creates and consolidates a structure of slavery similar to too many other structures in which we remain: religious, technological, political organisations... That *pater* you are told about as a sign of his goodness that he bent down one day and tied the shoelaces of a young priest. Praised be the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A man dancing with his son, a man looking after his son, a man who, while looking after his son, is looking after the boy he once was at the same time. A man and a boy living out the music of life, heart to heart, that precise moment being yet another precious miracle of life's immense beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They dance, the two of them together. Life rocks them for a few fleeting moments that will be eternal within them once their body and soul grasp them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rock your child, and the child you once were, with deep joy in your heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be rocked by strong arms, a generous heart and a free spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I felt my father was free in the countryside, watering the plants, lighting the fire, giving lectures, watching musicals on TV and at the theatre, when he was singing. I felt he was imprisoned at other times, when chasms were created between us, times when rigid rules, some inherited and others he chose to buy, prevented his soul from flying free. So his soul, in order to experience itself, dreamt that it flew. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want a world where dads dance with their children. Alone, at peace, happy for a few fleeting moments. With no-one watching them, nor seeking the gaze of others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I dreamt that our village kitchen was burning: it's burning, it's burning, it's burning! It's on fire! The air was coming in through a tilt-and-turn window. The next day it was published a news story in El Pa\u00eds<\/a>the struggle between the Bishop of Barbastro and Opus Dei. Pope Francis wrote a note by hand to that priest along the lines of \u2018stay away from their mafia-like intrigues\u2019. The next pope, the current one, Leo XIV received Gareth Gore in private, publishing photos of the meeting, and Gore stating that he congratulated him on the rigour of his book about Opus. Opus is burning, like that thing inside each of us that needs to be renewed. That pseudo-saint who has attracted so many beautiful people, many of whom I love with all my heart, and who at the same time was capable of handing over the returns to God himself for that wonderful idea of having unpaid slaves in their centres. Such a good idea, he used to say, that it couldn't have been his, it had to be God's...<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We apologised to the Virgin some time ago now for supporting such mistreatment, perpetuated over time by our lack of interest in knowing and facing the reality; the university campus is so pretty and going to pray to the Virgin is so nice that it is hard to dare to look into the dark rooms and denounce out loud what is seen there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If I were Peter for a moment, with the key to heaven to open and shut\u2026 When every priest on his pedestal, overgrown pseudo-intellectual, comfortable lord and proper stuck-up person wipes a backside, cleans genital wounds, cuts the toenails of an elderly person, they'll be able to pray to the Virgin again without shame. By the way, as women, accepting to take those tasks away from men is one of the worst things we can do for them and our humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ah! And it wouldn't hurt if they gave back the carving of the Virgin of the Angels if it turns out that Opus Dei nicked it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I use all this youthful vocabulary because I feel we are nothing more than that, a gang of youngsters led by bullies who think too much of themselves, with such top-tier manipulation skills that it's hard for us to notice. And these young lads who run the world try to fill the void they feel from a lack of good dancing in their childhood with external achievements, positions of power, and so on. Go to one of the most humble churches and you're very likely to find someone genuinely nice there (unless they're a dodgy bastard using it as a hiding place to prey at will, though they usually prefer the flashy stuff, the name, the surname, the pomp).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday I watched The Mission again. Right near the end, the Portuguese baddie says: \u2018Thus is life.\u2019 And the executioner who let what happened happen and the missions to be wiped out replies: \u2018No, it isn't. Thus we have made it. And thus I have made it.\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That this is not what life is like. That we let it become this way between one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I believe that ethics always starts with oneself, as far as we can reach each day, that we all have light and shadow. If you already demand of yourself and cultivate your soul in the service of something more than just yourself...<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next to be held to account is the Church, and it is all very well that they are starting by introducing an external audit for any organisation to prevent it from being a cult; the bishop's proposal seems sensible. They could continue by publishing the striking percentage of priests who maintain relationships with partners, both sporadic and regular, followed by introducing a red, amber and green rating system after confessions and masses, so that they stop saying rude and sexist remarks to female churchgoers, let alone abuses that are covered up by the seal of confession which protects them so well. On the second or third red, out you go, if not proceeding with a complaint when there is risk. And then, if there is someone a bit more clear-headed among them, let them open the doors to equality for women in the Church, as I find it terribly amusing how in Magnifica Humanitas the Pope calls for that equality in all areas, except in the Church\u2026 Lord. I want to believe that this pope will continue to have the progressive courage to do what he has to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 And from there, if the Church regains a bit more of our lost trust, we can move on to the heads of state, which is what a few of us are working on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regaining trust by diluting this cynicism that poisons us like hemlock as individuals and as a society is not easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I implore you, Life, for more dads (and mums) who learn to dance through life with their children, who offer security and tenderness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I ask you, Life, to let me know if I am not on the right track, if the hunch guiding my steps\u2014which consists of raising awareness and activating collective intelligence to put up a barrier to power for psychopathic profiles\u2014if said hunch or intuition makes no sense, show me the path to follow. Such profiles in politics are incompatible with human dignity, democracy, the Spanish Constitution, human rights, and every living being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That that is not what life is like, for fuck's sake! That we make it like that between us all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please, Life, give us the drive, the faith, creativity and courage we need to face this enormous task of research and collective creation towards a better place for all human beings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dad, I am so sorry that the organisation you gave so much to wasn't as saintly as you wanted to believe. I love you very much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
